Climbing the Mountain

Todays prompt, a walk.

Climbing the Mountain

Adventure starts when
The day is its highest
Just two set out on this quest
A father and his daughter of four

She holds the map and leads the way
A mountain we must climb
Flowering dogwood trees
And dandelions become our jungle

A stray lion of calico roars
“Its beautiful,” she says
Nowhere near the mountain
She begins to worry
“I wonder where my sister is”

Before the mountain
A great plain looms
A home to natives
Tending their crops

We met a lady with three dogs
“Hello,” my daughter says
“Hello,” says the woman
As she waves

“I miss my mommy,”
“I’m ready to go home”
We never made the mountain
But the trip was the adventure
